Guesstimates

Work through assumptions, calculations, and a final sense check.

Build an estimate

  1. Show the exact estimation question

Keep the requested quantity, units, and any limits visible.

  2. Ask for explicit assumptions

Request a clear breakdown of assumptions and intermediate calculations instead of only a final number.

  3. Check the arithmetic

Verify units, multiplication, order of magnitude, and whether the result is plausible. Adjust assumptions when the context requires it.

Present the reasoning

Explain how you arrived at the estimate. Treat it as a reasoned approximation, not a verified fact or a guaranteed correct answer.
