Overlay and Escape controls

Toggle the reference view

Windows+Shift+O toggles the last snapshot as a labelled reference in the current preview. The shortcut may conflict with another application; check the app’s shortcut status.

The supplied notes describe Ctrl, Alt, Caps Lock, and Esc as reference-overlay hide controls.

Use Escape

Press Esc to dismiss the reference overlay or stop typing. Dismissing an overlay does not exit the application. For a complete shutdown, follow Stop and exit.

Understand visibility

A reference overlay changes the view on your screen. It is not a guarantee that an application, recording tool, or observer cannot see activity. See the screen-sharing and compatibility FAQs.
